Taipei, Taiwan, July 28, 2008—Back off! A pedestrian tries to shield himself from unrelenting Typhoon Fung Wong.

After killing four people in the Philippines over the weekend, the storm struck Taiwan on Monday with 96-mile-an-hour (155-kilometer-an-hour) winds, killing at least one, and dropped more than 28 inches (70 centimeters) of rain.

By late Monday night, Fung Wong had moved northwest across the sea to China.
