Zaozhuang, Shandong, China, June 11, 2008—Silhouetted by the setting sun, two boys spar at Xuecheng Martial Arts School in eastern China.

Some 300 children, ages 5 to 17, come from across the nation to attend the school, where they study martial arts and take cultural courses. Students train twice a day for up to four hours a session, often starting before dawn.
