Chaitin, Chile, May 31, 2008Ash and smoke continued to spew Saturday from the Chaitin volcano, which started erupting May 2 and forced the evacuation of thousands of people. (See a stunning photo of a lightning-spiked eruption at Chaitin.)

After rescuing pets and livestock stranded by the eruption, officials last week began evacuating 600,000 salmon from a fish farm about 8 miles (12.8 kilometers) away, according to the Associated Press.

The relocated fish account for roughly 1.5 percent of Chile's annual salmon production, an industry spokesperson told AP.
