Paraná, Argentina, May 17, 2008—Farmers work a soybean field emblazoned with the likeness of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

The country's farmers went on strike May 8 after the government imposed an export tax on grains and oilseeds. In addition to the strike, growers erected roadblocks, staged protests, and performed other acts including the "tractor drawing" pictured here.

This week, however, Argentina's four largest farm groups said they would halt the strike to begin talks with the government.
