Rosario, Argentina, April 20, 2008Smoke shrouds a river bridge in the city of Rosario, some 200 miles (320 kilometers) northwest of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.

Set by farmers looking to clear grazing land for cattle, hundreds of brush fires raged north of the capital, government officials said.

The blankets of smoke drifting into Buenos Aires have created the highest pollution levels ever measured there, authorities said.
