April 9, 2008—A 5.9-inch (15-centimeter) forward guns on the German merchant raider Kormoran is seen 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) beneath the Indian Ocean.

The image is among the first released since a wreck-hunting team found the ship's remains, along with remnants of the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney, last month.

Kormoran and Sydney both sunk in November 1941 after an exchange of gunfire.
