Hamburg, Germany, March 1, 2008—Floodwaters inundate a bridge at the landmark fishmarket in the city's harbor after winter storm Emma hit Germany and other European countries.

Winds with speeds up to 96 miles an hour (155 kilometers an hour) and heavy rain hit Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic, killing at least eight people, damaging buildings and powerlines, and disrupting traffic.

The damages from the storm are estimated to reach nearly 2 U.S. billion dollars.
