Carnival Celebrated With Blood, Mud & Glitter

Prague, Czech Republic, February 1, 2008—Out of place and time, Italian ox-men—burdened by giant cowbells—and their grotesquely masked masters invoke ancient folklore from the island of Sardinia.

The surreal scene was part of Prague's six-day Bohemian Carnival's Divertimento Furioso parades, which spotlight traditional costumes and rituals. Other programs celebrate food and fine arts.
