Nairobi, Kenya, January 3, 2008—Workers sift through wreckage in a Christian church after riots ravaged Nairobi's slums.

Violence has wracked Kenya's capital since last month's general election, in which sitting President Mwai Kibaki declared victory amid protests from opposition leaders that the polls were rigged.

Since the vote, tensions have mounted in the city's slums, where support for the opposition is strong. Divisions have also begun to fall along tribal lines, with majority Kikuyus supporting Kibaki, and Luos and other ethnic groups backing the opposition party.
