Snow and ice storms have stranded hundreds of thousands of peoplemany of them migrant workers hoping to make it home for Chinese New Year on February 7, the Associated Press reported. Many migrants leave early for the holiday, as it is the only time they see family all year.

Soldiers and police officials were deployed outside the station to maintain order.
