Xichang, China, October 24, 2007The Long March 3A rocket carrying China's first lunar probe, the Chang'e -1, takes off from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

The Chang'e-1 aims to take a three-dimensional survey of the moon's surface and analyze lunar mantle rock and the top layer of powdery soil.
