Leipzig, Germany, October 9, 2007—People holding candles walk around the numbers "89" representing 1989, the year Germany was unified.

The 28-mile-long (45-kilometer-long) long Berlin Wall separated East and West Germany until it came down.

More than one million people have left former East Germany after the unification, according to the AFP news agency.
