Ha Tinh, Vietnam, October 4, 2007—A motorcyclist struggles to stay upright as tropical Typhoon Lekima's violent winds lash a highway in central Vietnam. (See map of Vietnam.)

The Southeast Asian country began evacuating 200,000 people along the coast Thursday as the storm triggered floods and destroyed rice crops and buildings. As of Friday, ten people were dead and six were missing, according to the Reuters news agency.

Lekima damaged nearly 77,000 houses, sank fishing vessels, and knocked down electricity poles.

The fifth typhoon of the season, Lekima hit the Philippines and China's Hainan island before slamming into Vietnam.
