Munich, Germany, September 22, 2007—It's beer time.

A waitress carries frothy mugs after the ceremonial opening of the Oktoberfest beer festival on Saturday.

About six million visitors drink Bavarian beer and enjoy roller coaster rides during the two-week annual event, which began in 1810.

In 2006 revelers enjoyed more than 1.5 million gallons (six million litres) of beer during the German festival, the news agency AFP reported.
