Russia, September 11, 2007—An explosive nicknamed the "father of all bombs" creates a giant fireball during a test in this undated image shown by Russian state television on Tuesday.

Channel One television said the new non-nuclear weapon was four times more powerful than the U.S.'s Massive Ordnance Air Blast, known colloquially as the "mother of all bombs."

Gen. Alexander Rukshin, a deputy chief of Russia's military general staff, told the channel that the thermobaric bomb—a type of bomb that mixes its fuel with atmospheric oxygen to create a blast—will ensure Russia's national security and confront international terrorism in any situation and any region.
