Legend says that "El Tío"—half-god, half-devil—protects the metal miners of Potosí, Bolivia.

Each Friday miners make offerings to the statue, putting lit cigarettes in its mouth, pouring alcohol on its feet, and placing coca leaves within its reach.

"Over and over again I went into these mysterious mines," said Québec-based photographer Louis Perron. "And during each visit I found something different."
