Venice, Italy, August 11, 2007—In a city without cars or motorcycles, getting around can be a real drag.

But the first new bridge to span Venice's Grand Canal in 70 years will help solve some of the City of Water's transportation issues.

The modern glass-and-steel bridge—installed this weekend—will significantly shorten the trip between Venice's Santa Lucia train station and Piazzale Roma, the bus and car park perched on the edge of the long causeway that connects Venice to mainland Italy.
