Hurricane Dean Lashes Jamaica

Fort-de-France, Martinique, August 18, 2007—Houses and banana fields lay ravaged by Hurricane Dean.

The Category 4 hurricane has destroyed the banana industry on the French island of Martinique. Authorities estimate that repairing the island's infrastructure will cost 200 million to 270 million U.S. dollars, the Associated Press reported.
