A fire fighter tries to extinguish a blaze in Pilion, 218 miles (350 kilometers) north of Athens, on June 28, 2007.

Greek emergency crews have been fighting fires in at least 15 different parts of the country, the Reuters news service reported.

A series of huge blazes have hit southern Europe in June and July, sparked by a heat wave that saw temperatures soar above 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius).
