Elephant "Spa Month" Rewards Hard Labor

Junior elephant trainers scrub the back of an elephant with coconut husks before he is taken for a long bath in the pond at the Punnathur Palace in Guruvayur, India, on August 11, 2007.

The senior trainer reserves for himself the right to scrub the face, trunk, and tusks of the elephant.

The annual restorative camp organized by a local Hindu temple, takes care of 64 elephants.
