August 23, 2007—Even fearsome predators sometimes need a safe haven. Meet Kobu, a five-year-old lion once kept as a pet that wound up in a cage, surviving on a diet of unwanted dogs from the local pound.

Then animal welfare workers gave Kobu a way out: a ticket to a sanctuary in Colorado that provides refuge for large predators in need of a good home.

Watch as Kobu makes the journey to his new range in the Rocky Mountains, and get an inside look at this unique "carnivore shelter."
