Tewkesbury, United Kingdom, July 23, 2007—Cars sit abandoned in floodwater after heavy rains soaked Britain this week.

Thousands of homes were evacuated due to flooding. Around 48,000 homes in the counties of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire in western England lost electricity after an inundated power station was shut down.

Central England experienced its worst flooding in 60 years, which caused millions of pounds of damage, Spiegel Online reported.

In Pershore, Worchestershire, 5.72 inches (145.4 millimeters) of rain fell in little over a single day, the news service said.
