Egyptian officials did a great job in withdrawing their wonder from the competition. There truly is nothing like it and should not be put in contention for "top contenders". Every wonder is wonderful in it's own way. All votes will obviously be based on bias opinion and how the person voting feels at that point. He/she may vote this wonder as #1 one day and a week later vote it at a subsequent level. All wonders deserve to be #1 in their respective nature.

In my opinion Egypt should be on this list, I have been there and its pretty awesome. Anyway I am about to knock another one off, I'm heading to Italy to see the Roman Colosseum! Wohoo! https://vidd.me/nQn

One LORD, one faith, one baptism, one earth, we have to learn to share this planet in peaceful ways to preserve the best place in the solar system.

Christ the Redeemer Statue in Brazil is truly a great wonder of the world. And the good works of the people in Brazil are the fruits of the Spiritual body of Christ which are the greatest beauty of all. God's spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. Galatians 5:22

Egypt has always drawn itself to me since I was very young.  My bucket list includes the OLD Seven Wonders of the World.  I pray to GOD I get to see them one day even tho Egypt officials have closed their doors to us.

The only list Christ the Redeemer makes in my book is "Things I want to BASE jump off of."

As the article says, "The winners were voted for by Internet and phone, American Idol style." Arguing that Christ the Redeemer shouldn't have made it is like saying Kelly Clarckson should have been beaten in American Idol by Bob Dylan. This is not a list decided on historical importance/human achievement/aesthetic beauty, it was purely decided on marketing/cell phone access. I really wish UNESCO would make a short list, 962 world heritage sites are hard to manage as an average tourist, and I hate being influenced by profit driven lists such as this one. I'm happy National Geographic at least noted the controversy, though I'd rather them just give us their top 7 list than publicize Bernard Weber's.

I'd love to hear what everyone would put on their personal top 7. Mine changes all the time, but currently I'd vote for:

1. Pyramids 2. Great Wall 3. Machu Picchu 4. Taj Mahal 5. Angkor Wat 6. Acropolis 7. Petra 8. (if pyramids don't count) Colosseum

So I left off Chichen Itza (which I would rank lower than Tikal or Teotihuacan) and Christ the Redeemer (which I'd rank lower than the Vatican) though I agree the view from up there is fantastic, but that would be a natural wonder and would need to compete with the Grand Canyon, Mt. Everest, or even another tropical beach landscape like Bora Bora.

As for bringing religion into your decision, every single one of these structures was influenced by religion, to use religion as a pro or a con based on your own beliefs would be admittedly biased.

@Roy, I see your Stonehenge and I raise you a Forbidden City, Bagan, Karnak, Teotihuacan, Potala Palace, Vatican, Mecca, and an Easter Island... haha so tough leaving these off, so many wonders to choose from.

Hey, I'm sorry the Christ statue was built way after constatine. Sorry about that.

I believe it is a wonder because it is a statue of christ ordered to be built by I think Constatine but I am a christian and I believe that it is a wonder. The other ones are great too but this one is a GREAT wonder.

Is this really a deserving "wonder"? The other six have scale and complexity to wonder at, this is just a big statue on a rock.

@Paul Hoggard I personally feel that the Christ the Redeemer Statue should not be in the list of world wonders. It is there because of the faith of million and nothing special. Compare it with others you will understand why I am saying so

@John M. Particularly since it perpetuates a myth that in turn completely ignores scientific evidence.

@John M. My thoughts exactly. Though I've never seen it in real life. Maybe we're missing something?

@Rory Gilmore @John M. Sir I honestly will pray for you. I don't mean that as an insult either. I don't know how anyone can live in this world today without God! The best thing is we don't have to. I leavwe you with some scripture. Please don't be quick to dismiss it instead give just a little thought. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." NIV "Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!' 'My Lord and my God!' Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, 'You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who haven't seen me and believe anyway.'" NLT and the most impottant one! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." KJV
