July 20, 2007—On the sunny isle of Oahu, the U.S. military is the largest electricity user. Now, as energy prices soar, a local Army base is turning to solar power to keep its barracks running on schedule.

Homes in Schofield Barracks also sport photovoltaic cells, some of which collect and return unused energy.
