Turpan, China, June 25, 2007—It may look like a mirage, but this train really does chug through the desolate sand dunes of China's Kumtag Desert.
Tourists can hop on the sightseeing train to view the scenery of Turpan, a scenic area in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Turpan, which means "fertile land," has unusual formations sculpted by wind and water. The region was once as a mainstay of trade on the ancient Silk Road.
