Fish-and-chips fans, take note: One of the losers at this month's Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species was the spiny dogfish, a breed of shark that often appears on British menus as "rock salmon," served with a side of fries.

A proposal to restrict the sale of dogfish on the international market failed to get support from the UN trade group, despite reports made at the meeting that the animal is heavily overfished in European and North American waters.
