Earthquake Lifts Island Ten Feet Out of Ocean (Pictures): Reef

The April 2 Solomon Islands quake that raised this reef out of the ocean was especially hard on such picturesque corals, which lure tourism dollars.

"The more robust corals are still there," Danny Kennedy, a dive operator in the provincial capital Gizo, told the AFP news agency. "But it's the ones that people want to photograph, the sea fans and the colorful corals, that are dying."
