Trinidad, Bolivia, March 5, 2007—Heavy rains in Bolivia force children caught outdoors to seek makeshift shelter. The torrential downpours, which began in December, have devastated the country's eastern lowlands, affecting more than 350,000 residents, government officials say.

The disaster has prompted pledges of assistance from Venezuela (U.S. $15 million) and the U.S. ($1 million).
