London, England, United Kingdom March 3, 2007—The first total lunar eclipse in three years towers over London's Westminster Abbey. Stargazers in Europe, Africa, and the eastern Americas had the best view of the relatively rare solar spectacle, which takes place only when the moon is full and completely obscured in Earth's shadow (see a diagram).
