Jakarta, Indonesia

Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Adha in Jakarta's Istiqial mosque in Indonesia. The three-day festival honoring Ibrahim (Abraham) begins every year shortly after pilgrims complete the hajj, the ritual annual journey to the Islamic holy city of Mecca.

During the festival Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice domestic animals as a symbol of Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son at God's behest. The meat is usually distributed to family as well as the needy.
