Washington, D.C., United States

Former U.S. President Gerald R. Ford pets his dog Liberty as he looks over documents in the Oval Office of the White House on November 7, 1974.

Ford, who will be remembered as the healer of a divided nation after the Watergate scandal, died at his home on Tuesday at the age of 93. Ford is also sometimes called the accidental president, since he took office without being elected when disgraced president Richard M. Nixon resigned.

Starting on Saturday Ford's body will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol building before being flown for a funeral service and burial in his home state of Michigan.
