A new composite image of the Orion Nebula taken by NASA's Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes emphasizes a group of massive stars collectively called the "Trapezium" at the heart of the cloud. This community of behemoth stars, seen in yellow near the center of the image, may be to blame for recently wreaking havoc in the familiar Orion constellation.

The image is a false color composite in which light detected at different wavelengths produces the various hues of blue, green, orange, and red. Captured by Hubble's ultraviolet and visible-light cameras, swirls of green reveal hydrogen and sulfur gas heated by intense ultraviolet radiation from the Trapezium's stars while wisps of red and orange indicate infrared light from illuminated clouds containing carbon-rich molecules.
