October 20, 2006—Women light earthen lamps in Agartala, India, to begin Diwali, an annual five-day celebration also known as the "Festival of Lights."

Most popularly celebrated by illuminating homes with lamps and by setting off firecrackers, Diwali is one of the most enthusiastically celebrated festivals in India and Indian communities throughout the world. The lamps symbolize knowledge and create a feeling of brotherhood and spiritual harmony.
