Exotic New Orchids Discovered in New Guinea

A bright, flamelike bulb announces this orchid, which scientists recently discovered in Papua New Guinea.

Like many of the eight new orchids recently found by WWF researchers, this species is epiphytic—meaning it grows on other plants rather than on the ground—and requires lots of water to survive, making it perfectly suited to its dense rain forest habitat.
