New Marine Species Discovered in Indonesia

Fusiliers dart above a coral reef in Bird's Head Seascape, a region home to an estimated 600 coral speciesnearly all of which were found during a recent expedition.

Although the coral reefs in the region are relatively healthy, there are considerable threats to their survival due in part to the exploits of local fisheries—practices including the use of explosives and cyanide—and pollution caused by nearby mining and logging activity.
