Cuba's Trinidad Folkloric Ballet rehearses in an empty courtyard, honing skills for both foreign and domestic audiences. Trinidad, a former sugar town is a cultural hotbed, but photographer David Alan Harvey explains that such pursuits are extremely popular all over the country.

"They put an incredible emphasis on culture," he said. "The Cuban ballet is famous worldwide.

"They find kids with talent and the state puts money and effort into getting those kids trained for whatever they're good at," he continued. "Dance classes, music classes, art classes—they've got 'em. These people are supertalented, and they will have studied their whole lives."
