A 1998 funeral procession for a Cuban dignitary marches through Havana's venerable Necropolis Cristsbal Colsn.
Photographer David Alan Harvey says the procession was, in his experience, a rare display of military authority. "You don't see a lot of military guys with guns, and you certainly don't visually get the impression of a police state," he said.
"Now, I'm not saying that there aren't secret police guys around in plain clothes. But I think that the only time that I've encountered a lot of cops or military people [was during an] occasional clampdown on prostitution or for a ceremony like this one."
