Native to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, the pink pigeon has been suffering from decades of habitat loss and introduction of invasive predators. The population dropped to a mere 12 known birds by 1986, according to the nonprofit Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. The bird is now listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.
