National Cherry Blossom Fest Honors Japanese Culture

A bumble bee alights on the delicate blossoms of a cherry tree along the Washington, D.C., Tidal Basin.

The majority of the basin's flowering cherry trees are of the Yoshino variety, which produces an explosion of white blooms at its peak. This hybrid tree was first introduced in Tokyo in 1872 and is now one of Japan's most popular cultivated varieties.
