World Press Photo Contest Winners, 2005

Announced on February 10, 2006, the 2005 World Press Photo contest winners were chosen by an international jury of photojournalism experts from newspapers, magazines, and news services. The photos in this gallery are the winning entries most admired by National Geographic News editors.

World Press Photo of the Year 2005

In this year's overall winner a malnourished one-year-old boy presses his mother's lips at an emergency feeding clinic in Tahoua, Niger, in Africa. Locusts and one of Niger's worst droughts in decades destroyed much of last October's crop, leaving an estimated 3.6 million people short of food.
