After "swallowing" ocean explorer Fabien CousteauJacques's grandsonthe 14-foot (4.3-meter) shark-shaped submarine Troy is lowered from a ship into waters off Isla de Guadalupe in Baja California, Mexico.

Cousteau sees the ersatz great white—invented by him and a team of scientists and engineers—as a means to see what real great white sharks do when humans aren't around.

"Now all of the sudden we can see what they do as white sharks rather than as trained circus animals," he said.
