Hurricane Wilma devastated buildings in the resort town of Canczn when it made landfall on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on October 21, 2005.

Three people died and more than a thousand homes were destroyed in Playa del Carmen as Wilma lashed popular tourist resort towns along the coast. The storm weakened as it approached landfall, but it still packed enough punch to fell trees and tear off roofs as tens of thousands of tourists and residents took refuge in emergency shelters.
