Sand dunes in the Empty Quarter desert in Saudi Arabia are seen from a few hundred feet (tens of meters) above ground.

Photographer George Steinmetz was able to capture this shot in 2005 while flying on a motorized paraglider of his own design.

"What is so spectacular about [Steinmetz's] photographs is this way he enables us to look at parts of the world never seen before," fellow photographer Gerd Ludwig said. "He shows us the beauty of an untouched land in its wonderful shapes and forms."
