Hindu pilgrims bathe under the Kapil Dhara waterfall of the Narmada River, India.

"Hindus believe the river descended from the sky by the order of Lord Shiva, and it's divinity is so strong that merely gazing upon it will absolve them of their sins and make them pure," wrote Wide Angle author Ferdinand Protzman of the 1988 James P. Blair photograph.

Photographer Gerd Ludwig said of the image: "In a very subtle way you see the joy of being under a waterfall. That's emphasized by the shapes of the bodies: They are round … with open hands."
