An Afghanistan-based U.S. military helicopter—one of eight pledged to the earthquake-relief effort—flies over a collapsed mosque in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, while evacuating earthquake victims on October 11. The U.S. has also promised up to 50 million dollars in aid.

Eleven thousand people have been confirmed dead in Muzafarrabad, the capital of the Pakistani-ruled section of the Kashmir region. The rest of Kashmir is administered by India.
