October 10, 2005, marks the 25th birthday of the Very Large Array (VLA), the most powerful radio telescope in the world. Located in the desert of central New Mexico, the VLA lives up to its name, with 27 radio antennas connected together to provide the power of a telescope 22 miles (35 kilometers) wide.
