The new spacecraft (below, shown attached to the landing module) will feature solar panels to help provide power, and both the capsule and the lander will be fueled by liquid methane.

Engineers devised the methane-based system with a mission to Mars in mind. Future astronauts on Mars may be able to convert methane in the Martian atmosphere into fuel for the ride home.
