Franz Pils, a 46-year-old architectural metalworker from Rottweil, Germany, wears a full beard with a styled mustache. In international beard and mustache competitions, Pils vies in the natural-beard category, one of 17 officially recognized facial-hair styles.

Pils wears the uniform of the Swabian Beard and Mustache Club, a 14-year-old organization based in Schoemberg, Germany. The organization claims 132 members—129 men and 3 women. (The women are honorary members whose husbands also belong to the club.)
