The conical snout of the mako shark adds to its hydrodynamic efficiency. "Each time we encounter one of these 'fighter planes' of the deep we are left in awe of their perfect fusiform shape," photographer Chris Fallows said. "The slightly open-mouthed swimming style, coupled with needle-like teeth, leave you with no doubt that this is an animal that needs to be respected."
