If you're willing to put in the time, you'll likely save money and find the right kind of travel experience for you. Talk to people who have visited the destination. You can even get opinions from other travelers by logging onto www.epinions.com. Call the hotel or tour operator and ask very specific questions. If a gym is important to me, for example, I'll call the hotel I'm thinking of staying in and ask how many treadmills it has. If you do get somewhere, and the hotel is pricey but the service is poor, complain right away. Tell the hotel manager how you want the problem solved. The situation will likely be remedied immediately.
Where in the world have you found great service?
Travelers can find good service in every country. But the best service I've ever had has been in Asia. Thailand takes terrific care of its visitors. I also love the Áman Resorts and Oberoi Resorts in Indiaboth offer customer service that's off the charts.
